Delete Your Account
How to delete your Since the Big Bang account, and exactly what happens to your data when you do.
Delete your account from inside the app
This is the fastest way, and it takes effect immediately. In the Since the Big Bang app:
- Open the Profile tab.
- Tap the menu button (the three lines in the top right).
- Tap Delete Account.
- Confirm by tapping Delete.
Your account and the data listed below are deleted right away, and you are signed out. This cannot be undone.
Request deletion by email
If you can no longer sign in to the app, you can ask us to delete your account instead.
Email us from the address on your account
Use the subject line Delete my account and include your handle (for example @yourhandle) so we can find the right account.
We need the request to come from the email address on the account, or to otherwise be able to confirm the account is yours, so that nobody can delete someone else's account. We complete verified requests within 30 days and email you when it is done.
What is deleted
All of the following is deleted permanently and cannot be recovered:
- Your profile — display name, handle, email address, profile photo, and your public/private account setting.
- Your sign-in identity — the record that links your Google or Apple account to Since the Big Bang. You will no longer be able to sign in.
- Every event you created — titles, descriptions, dates, and links, including private and followers-only events.
- Every photo you uploaded — event images and your profile photo are deleted from our storage.
- Your follow relationships — everyone you follow, and everyone who follows you.
- Your pending follow requests — both the ones you sent and the ones you received.
Your handle is released when your account is deleted, so it becomes available for someone else to claim.
What is kept, and for how long
Two kinds of record are kept after your account is deleted, so that our safety tools keep working and the same abuse cannot simply be repeated with a new account:
- Content reports — reports you filed about other people, and reports other people filed about you or your content.
- Blocks — records of accounts you blocked, and accounts that blocked you.
These records are kept indefinitely for safety and abuse prevention. They store only an internal account identifier, and once your account is deleted that identifier no longer resolves to any name, handle, email address, photo, or profile. They do not contain your profile information or the content of your events.
We may also retain information where we are required to by law, and ordinary server logs kept for security and reliability, which age out on our normal log retention schedule.
