Getting started

What is Since the Big Bang?

It is an interactive timeline of history. You pan and zoom through a single continuous line that runs from the origin of the universe to today. Pinch to zoom out to millions of years, or in to a single day. Tap any card to read the full event.

Do I need an account?

No. You can browse the whole timeline, search, and read events without signing in. An account is only needed to add your own events, follow other people, upload a profile photo, or report and block content.

How do I create an account?

Open the Profile tab and choose Sign in with Apple or Continue with Google. There are no passwords to manage. After signing in you pick a handle and a display name, and choose whether your account is public or private.

Using the app

How do I add an event?

Sign in, then tap the + button on the timeline. Give the event a title, a description, a date, and optionally a photo. Before saving, pick who can see it:

Just me — only you.
Followers — people who follow you.
Public — anyone, including people who are not signed in.

Why doesn't my event show up on the timeline?

The timeline only shows events that have a photo, events you created yourself, and events created by people you follow. Events without a photo are still fully searchable and still open from a direct link — they just don't take up a slot on the timeline.

How do I edit or delete an event I made?

Open the event and tap the … menu in the top right. You will see Edit and Delete for events you created. Deleting removes the event and its photos permanently.

Public vs. private accounts

On a public account, anyone can follow you immediately. On a private account, people must send a follow request that you approve or deny under Profile → Follow Requests. You can change this any time in Profile → Edit Profile.

Safety and moderation

How do I report content?

Open the event or the person's profile and tap the … menu in the top right, then Report. Choose a reason: spam or misleading, harassment or hate, sexual content, violence, or something else. Reports go straight to our moderation inbox and are reviewed within 24 hours. Content that violates our rules is removed and the account that posted it is terminated. You need to be signed in to report.

How do I block someone?

Use the same … menu and tap Block. Blocking hides all of that person's events from you and removes any follow relationship in both directions. You can see and undo your blocks under Profile → Blocked Accounts.

What is not allowed?

There is zero tolerance for objectionable content and for abusive users. The full rules are in the Terms of Service.

Account and data

How do I delete my account?

Go to Profile → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your profile, your events, and any photos you uploaded. It cannot be undone. If you would rather have us do it, email richard@sincethebigbang.com from the address on your account.

What data do you collect?

Your email address, name, and user ID from the sign-in provider you chose, plus any photos and event text you upload. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell your data. The full details are in the Privacy Policy.

Can I request a copy of my data?

Yes. Email richard@sincethebigbang.com from your account's email address and we will respond within the time limits set by applicable law.

Troubleshooting

The app says "No internet connection"

The timeline could not reach our servers. Check your connection, then pull down on the timeline to retry. If it persists on a good connection, email us — it may be an outage on our end.

Sign-in isn't working

Sign-in opens a secure browser window handled by Apple or Google. If it closes without signing you in, make sure you are not blocking pop-ups or cross-site content in your browser settings (Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android), then try again. If you previously deleted your account, sign-in creates a fresh one and you will be asked to pick a handle again.

I can't upload a photo

The app needs permission to read your photo library. On iPhone, go to Settings → Since the Big Bang → Photos and allow access. On Android, go to Settings → Apps → Since the Big Bang → Permissions → Photos and videos (called Storage on older versions) and allow access. We only read the specific photo you choose; we never scan your library.

Requirements

The iOS app requires an iPhone running iOS 15.1 or later. The Android app requires Android 7.0 or later. The website works in any modern desktop or mobile browser.
